Forest workers in Illinois decided to educate the public about cicadas . . . by dressing up as them and acting out their life cycle. First, a worker climbs out of the ground and makes her way up a tree while a guy narrates. Then another worker dressed as a male cicada “sings” to attract a female. They used a bongo-style thing to simulate the sound they make. It ends with a new cicada hatching, feeding, and burrowing into the ground to feed on roots for 17 years.
